Small Fuse - Big Improvement - SUPERB !
Of course the mains supply affects hi-fi equipment - but it's taken me almost 4 decades to realise just HOW much it affects systems. After upgrading all my mains cables and the mains socket and installing a pair of fancy Isol-8 mains conditioners, I sat back, really pleased with the improvement I'd made. But with a 10% MCRU discount waiting to be used, I decided to try a Synergistic Research Black 13A fuse in the mains plug of each mains conditioner. WOW! How can a little fuse make such a difference? I was already using "Hi-Fi Tuning" fuses in all my plugs, but these SR Blacks blew them out the water. The improvement was dramatic. So much so that I decided to go the whole hog. I put all future upgrades on hold, and used that money to replace every 13A and internal equipment fuse with an SR Black. STUNNING ! The level of detail, HF extension and bass definition has increased well beyond what an upgrade of similar cost might give. These fuses are excellent - 5 STARS.
Upgrading from SR Red to Black
If you've got this far you are already aware of the benefits of 'audiophile' fuses. I've gone from AMR through to SR20 and then Reds and each time I've been amazed at the improvement. When Dave recently put out his post Bristol offer I decided to take advatage and give a couple of Blacks a go. One went into an Audiolab M-Dac with extra power supply and the other into a Quad 306 rebuilt , by myself, with boutique components. The power cable is Furutech and the UK plugs and IEC are also Furutech / IEGO. No mains distribution units are used and the HIFi has its own mains spur.
So what difference did replacing the 13A Reds with the Blacks have and where they worth the outlay. In a word YES. Bearing in mind that I have only used them for some 50 hours and the burn in time is about 300, yes 300 hours, the improvement is far greater than I was expecting. Every evening brings improvements as they get burned in. Every criteria of the sound has improved but so far the best for me is the bass. More articulate, deeper and bearing in mind I user MG12s some bass boom I was experiencing has gone. Detail and the separation of instruments gets better every night.
Try one out and I can guarantee you will be looking to get more.
Well worth the extra over the Red
This new Black fuse offers worthwhile improvements over the Red. Expensive, but worth the extra over the Red.
