The Mains Cables R Us record mat is a simple design, made from rubber impregnated cork, the 2 parts fit together for standard vinyl, when playing 180g vinyl which is slightly thicker, take off the top mat and there is no need to adjust VTA.
Hello I was wondering what thickness is the MCRU Cork&Rubber Mat. That is with both layers. It makes sense to have two layers to account for 180g vinyl. I never thought of it before, it makes sense. I wonder why I have never heard a mention of the fact that the vta will be affected in any review for mats. Only in reference to the height of the mat have I read that if a mat is 3mm you probably wont have to change the vta . If a mat is higher e.g 5mm then the vta will likely need to change as most felt mats like what I have are 3mm. I am guessing most people will just play 180g vinyl like any other record. If I don't get a two layer mat like yours would it be a good idea to reduce the tracking force instead when playing 180g vinyl? Forgive my ignorance of such things. I am thinking this is something people might do as a temporary measure. I don't have many 180g vinyl. The tracking force of my cartridge is 1.75g ( range 1.5 to 2.0 g) Thank you
The mats are 1.5mm thick each part.
