There is nothing like the micro iDSD. It is literally, out of this world. It is the only DAC in the world (at any price) to play True Native Octa-DSD512/PCM768/Double DXD. Its Perfect-Match means it can be fine-tuned to any headgear from IEMs all the way through to large headphones. Its 8v/4000mW output makes it one of the most powerful headamps to drive even the most hungry of headphones with ease.
iFi has forged an enviable reputation for being at the forefront of computer audio technology. The micro iDSD has just made another leap, an Octa-Leap to be precise. With its special Dual-Core Burr-Brown native DSD/PCM chipset at the heart, the micro iDSD is capable of True Native PCM768, Octa-Speed DSD512 and 2x DXD; it is simply out of this world.
The micro iDSD has 3 different power modes Eco, Normal and Turbo. Capable of 4000mW, 1000mW or 250mW, the micro iDSD is able to drive the full gamut of headphone and amplifiers alike. With iEMatch there to dial to suit any IEM, the micro iDSD has redefined the headphone amplifier class.
Used along with the analogue volume control, the diminutive size of the micro iDSD belies its uncanny ability to drive virtually anything and everything!
SmartPower® is the micro iDSD’s onboard recharging feature for Smartdevices. Its 4800mAH battery is able to fully recharge an iPhone two-times. Compatible with Apple and Android, phones and tablets, it is another example of iFi’s commitment to customer needs – enjoy high-end audio on the go without worrying about the phone going flat.
iFi’s iCAN and iTube have already achieved widespread acclaim, so much so that their core features including 3D Holographic and XBass have become renowned in their own right and imitated by others. In the micro iDSD, for the first time in an iFi product, it features XBass and 3D Holographic for Headphones and Speakers. All these features are still executed in the analogue, not digital domain to preserve the original music format.
And so much more….with the amazing Crowd-Design program, we are over the moon that you, the customer was central to the development of the micro iDSD. The micro iDSD is literally bursting with features – such as Direct/Pre-Amp, 3.5mm input, SPDIF Input/Output and much, much more. You will have to see it to believe it.
No customer questions for the moment.
More than I bargained for!
The ifi micro seems to me one of those items that come along once in a blue moon where the amount spent is so far exceeded by the enjoyment gained that you can't help but smile and then double check the receipt! I needed a decent headphone amp and didn't want to add more boxes and cables to my set up. I was also keen to dip my toe into better quality portable audio. I can use the micro for the train with headphones and in the office with powered speakers and I can then drop it back into my main system (Vortexbox, Sugden & Harbeth) at home. The micro transforms music from my phone and work pc and then betters a £400 dac that I had previously used in my main system. Through both headphones and speakers it is always engaging and unfatiguing (even with my Beyer DT770s, which are prone to fizz a little). It's not that it is 'superior' in the usual hifi descriptions, it is just, well...musical. It reminds me of one of my favourite old Marantz receivers; I know it isn't the last word in resolution or slam or air, but it's just so thoroughly enjoyable that I don't care. Advances in computer audio seem to be happening apace right now, so I didn't want to invest a large sum. Given the functionality / advanced spec and the lovable sound quality, my suspicion is that I will continue to enjoy this 'small' investment for several years to come. Looks like I got more than I bargained for! Delighted.
A Real Treat
Portable gear can be underpowered and a real compromise with the battle between usability and performance levels, so it can be a worrisome thing to buy an amp at this price level that is running from a battery as a portable unit.
Have no worries. This DAC is a an absolute powerhouse and drives even difficult headphones well.
The choice of inputs and amount of power delivered to headphones is really well thought out. For instance, it can drive an HE6 which is no mean task and at the other end of the sensitivity scale, a Fostex TH900. You can set three levels of power and also put more resistance in the way via a little switch underneath for iems, which is what I used for the Fostex. For the HE6 or LCD2, you just let it roar away on full gain. Very nice feature.
You can input via the mini jack and use the device purely as an ordinary amp or go in via the usb input which is absolutely top notch with the level of files that you can play into it. Hi resolution files going in via usb are stunning to say the least.
It also has phono outputs so you can use it as a preamp. Many uses for this device.
The dac is built like a tank and comes with a nifty little bag with a gap in the back to push wires through if you wish to use it in the bag, plus different connection options. It comes with various adapters too.
I think that it is really worth the price since the level of detail and the timbre are a delight. The amp just disappears through headphones. A great listen indeed.
Lastly, I have to mention the level of service from David. He is quick to get the order out to you and in my case, a minor problem was sorted so quickly and easily that I would recommend buying from MCRU without reservation. No question.
I have never bought from this company before but I was bowled over from the level of response that I got from David in particular. He really goes the extra mile to please.
This is an excellent DAC and if I am looking for any more specialised items, I won't hesitate to return.
